After stumbling upon The Chequers in Slaugham towards the end of 2018, Chef Director Matt Gillan decided this beautiful Edwardian property was the ideal location for his flagship restaurant. Heritage is the culmination of Matt’s many years of experience cooking at the highest level and is a beacon of food and drink nestled in the beautiful english countryside.
Our main emphasis is hospitality, creating the most memorable experience for each and every guest who walks through our door. Each room is unique in its design, capturing a sense of ‘journey’ while you travel through each space. Enjoy an aperitif in our sophisticated bar area before sitting down for dinner in the restaurant, overlooking our attractive garden and beyond into the stunning Sussex countryside. End your evening in our steam-punk lounge, complete with plush seats, copper accents and unusual art-work. It is the perfect space to relax before ending your journey and heading home or making your way up to one of our five boutique bedrooms.
Our menus are founded in classical techniques carefully combined with Matt’s signature twists. We offer multi-course tasting menus with ever changing enhancements that you can add into your menu. This is paired with our unique and captivating drinks menu, with creative cocktails and exceptional wines. All of our menus change seasonally and are largely influenced by the incredible produce available from the Sussex countryside surrounding the restaurant.
